The national gathering of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) kicked off in the capital on Wednesday aiming to work out strategies to push the agenda of identity-based federalism.
"The objective of the national gathering is to forge common understanding on the present political situation of the country and discuss the future strategies on a constitution based on ethnic identity," NEFIN president Raj Kumar Lekhi said.
The national gathering of the umbrella body of the indigenous communities comes at a time when Janajati leaders of parties like the Nepali Congress and the UML have been threatening to quit if their party leaderships do not agree on identity-based federalism.
